Six Months Later…..
It's been almost six months since we left CHOC in March. Riley's recovery has been nothing short of a miracle! We are proud to say that we have only been back to CHOC for check-up's. This summer Riley was released from his 180 day isolation post-transplant. Thanks to the team at CHOC– Riley now gets to enjoy […]
Day 22- Tuesday, Jan. 30th
We've been very busy this last week! Even though Riley's transplant went amazing we hit a minor bump in the road. Over the weekend he began coughing which normally would not be a problem but when you have no immune system that is trouble. By Sunday night it got much worse and we found out […]
Day 16- Wed., Jan. 24th “Transplant Day”
The only word I can use to describe today is "surreal." We began the day at 6am preparing Sydney for surgery. We spent the time opening presents & taking pictures. Sydney was trying on princess jewelery and having a great time. Right before her surgery they gave her a little bit of sleepy medicine. By […]
Day 14- Monday, Jan. 22nd
Today is Riley's last day of chemotherapy. The effects have started to show a little more this weekend. Overall he seems very tired and groggy today. He's enjoying being rocked in the rocking chair & taking long naps. It's hard to see him so weak so hopefully it will only be for a short time.
This […]
Day 11- Jan. 19th
Wow….we are already at Day 11…the days are beginning to go by fast! We are starting to feel very at home at CHOC. We have gotten to know some of the other families as well as the nurses quite well. We have set up a great schedule where we are taking turns staying with Riley. […]
Day 9- Wednesday, Jan. 17th
I'm so proud of myself that I'm keeping up with posting updates! I hope it's keeping you informed each week. We have only 2 days of the stage 2 chemo left. Riley is still doing quite well. He hasn't had any side effects to speak of during stage 2. On Friday we begin the last (& […]
Day 7- Monday, Jan. 15th
Sunday was one of our first tough days. Riley had to go back into surgery for the 2nd time to have his central line repositioned. The surgery was supposed to begin at 1pm and didn't happen until 5pm. Needless to say it was a long afternoon. Riley wasn't able to eat all day because we were waiting for the […]
Day 4- Friday, Jan. 12th
Riley is in great spirits here at CHOC! He is enjoying his one on one time with mommy. Here there is no competition with big sister. He also loves the nurses who are taking wonderful care of him. Today he starts his first round of chemotherapy. The first one is the most mild so I […]
Day 2
Yesterday was a big day for us! We went through admission & got settled into our room. Riley was prepared for his surgery on Wednesday morning. He had a platelet transfusion during the night to boost his platelets before surgery. He was (to say the least) a little unhappy that he couldn't eat after midnight. […]
Day 0
Winter Break at school went by too fast as always. Two weeks of vacation is never enough. We had a wonderful Christmas & New Year's Eve with the kids. We were even able to squeeze in a visit to "the Happiest Place on Earth" Disneyland where the kids had a great day! They both loved "It's a Small World" & ToonTown.
Now […]
